아름다운 유혹

Things I notice when I watch 아름다운 유혹:

- Why does 재혁 bother to put a tie on in the morning? It’s off by the time he gets to the office.

- People who wear slippers in their homes look funny on television. Yes, I know why they’re doing it...I don’t wear shoes in my house, either. But on television, it looks funny when people scuff around in slippers.

- 신성우 has many fine characteristics. However, the one-note performance is wearing on me. He’s gaining on Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman (Star Wars: Episodes I and II) for my Wooden Performance Award. At least 기태 (최준용) has a personality.

Out of context

Last evening I ran into my first language institute director at the supermarket. He’s here for one year as a visiting scholar at a local university. Although we greeted one another in English, I immediately found myself privately reciting the dialogue from the Let’s Speak Korean VOD (lesson 23) I studied today:

여보세요. 거기 김 선생님 댁이지요?

내, 그런데요.

김 선생님 계세요?

잠깐만 기다리세요.

Completely useless in this context, and he’s neither a 김 nor a 선생님. But at least I’m ready to call him.

Taking notes

During the supervisor’s meeting this morning, I found myself taking notes in 한글...sometimes it was just easier. Turned out to be a mix of Korean words, English words, and English words written in 한글. Good thing no one else here has to read them.

Smile!

When I practice my Korean (alone, in my office, with the door closed), I often think of one of my early Korean teachers. She suggested that smiling while I spoke Korean would improve my pronunciation. According to her, it did.

Does it improve yours?
