스파게티 사진에 새로운 메뉴판.. 벽도 새롭게 칠했다.
한 곳에 아직 세워놓지 않은 <솜사탕>이라는 입간판이 보인다.

Yesterday I wrote…

Yesterday I wrote:

Should my language study be more like intervals, or do I go for “radical, sweeping, comprehensive changes”?

I asked the wrong question.

Change

Change is hard.

Hard hard hard.

I know that I’m capable of change. Over the last year or so, I’ve made adjustments to my schedule, to my habits, to my agendas (this was following a self-imposed moratorium on change beneath my control). I’ve noticed that I tend to make a small change, see how it works, and then fine-tune it. Then I’ll make another change and follow the same process. At any given moment, I’m testing several changes, usually in different areas.

In last month’s issue of Fast Company (via ToDone), Alan Deutschman writes about change in Change or Die:

Self-discipline

I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but Steve Pavlina’s recent series on self-discipline may give some language learners a needed shot in the arm.

Writing and speaking Korean

I was planning to write two posts about writing and speaking Korean, but I realized that if I wrote one about writing I could publish the one about speaking just by doing a quick find and replace.

Yes, devoted readers, kangmi often feels like a sham. She writes about learning Korean and how she’s doing it, but creating output of any sort is harder than getting a pre-adolescent to take a shower every other day. Neither is amenable to reason.

Reason tells me that if I just do it, it will get easier. Easy enough to say, but frankly, I don’t know where to start. Write? Write what? Talk? Did you say something to me in Korean? Give me five minutes while my brain tries to process it (I said I was better at listening than writing and speaking. I didn’t say I was good at it.).

Listening to Korean

My Korean listening skills are next on the list. They vary depending on the situation.

The telephone, of course, is the worst, but it’s also the area that’s most likely to get a boost in the near future. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’d signed up for a Skype account, but I’ve been trying to decide exactly which headset I wanted to buy. I originally thought I was going to pick up the headset I saw at Staples, but I held off until I could do some online research. After much deliberation, I ordered this one. I should have it by Monday.
